How Much Does An Epic Cost?

Norwegian Cruise Lines', 150,000 ton Norwegian Epic will be the largest ship in the NCL fleet when she is delivered in the summer of 2010. The 4,200 passenger, 1,080 ft long ship was originally one of an order of three ships to be built by Aker Yards (now STX France).

Due to spiraling costs, which the yard blamed on changes requested by NCL. The price of the single ship has increased from $940 Million to $1.2 Billion. At this price, the Norwegian Epic costs about $285,000 per berth.
NCL has already declined the option for a second ship and was forced to pay penalties in excess of $128 Million. The possibility of a third ship seems to be an impossibility since the discussions between STX France and NCL were somewhat combative over the price for the Norwegian Epic.
